REMOTE MOUNTAINS RIDE
HARD DAYS IN THE FAR NORTH
If you like your mountains majestic and your riding tough and remote, this is the region for you.
Our ‘base’ option is 6 days with 4 full days riding, but as with all our rides, we can customise for you: more rides, more rest days…. or perhaps less of something? You let us know, we build the right tour for your group.
Day 1 Hanoi
No riding
In Hanoi you’ll have free time to explore before we meet up late afternoon for some drinks and then a group dinner to meet your guides and learn more about the tour. If you need help building your bikes, we will be on hand for that.
Day 2 To The Hills
170km | 2,200m
After a transfer from Hanoi we start riding on pristine tarmac with a warm up ride into big mountain territory with five main climbs to get you loosened up! Our destination today is Cao Bang province, possibly the greenest place in a very verdant nation.
Day 3 Cao Bang - Bao Lac
125 km | 2,200m
Today is a belter of a stage, kicking off with a stunning 2% climb to warm up the legs, before we hit two incredible passes with descents to truly remember. Today the intensity and range of the greens is incredible and the feel of being ‘out there’ where few ride is palpable.
Day 4 Bao Lac - Dong Van
95km/150km | 2,250/2600m
Today’s ride starts with a choice - a flat 50k roll or a diversion to the Alpe de Huex of Vietnam - we’ll make the choice the night before.
Aftet that comes more bucket list riding with a truly huge 17km HC climb taking us up into true Frontier Area territory.
From here we ride the aptly named ‘Happiness Road’, before pulling into our mountain town home for the night.
Day 5 Dong Van - Ha Giang
145km | 2,150m
There are are few route options for us today - which we choose will depend on your group. The good news is they are all magnificent with photo opportunities around every corner.
We’ll ride through the other-worldly Dong Van Rocky Karst Plateau, sharing the road with the local ethnic minorities who will be beeping their motorbike horns as ‘hellos’ as the pass. This is true Frontier territory. We’ll finish the ride at a small ethnic village and enjoy a well earned, home cooked feast.
Day 6 Ha Giang - Hanoi
Optional recovery ride, pre-transfer
Today we either make the full transfer back to Hanoi in the Velo Vietvan, or we can add on an extra slice of riding to break up the journey as your ‘recovery ride’.
We will drop you back at your hotel of choice and bid you farewell.
Alternatively we can extend the tour - just let us know when you book if you want more riding and we’ll customise this route to give you extra days in the saddle.
